In this podcast interview, Quantia’s CEO Mike Coyne and I discuss what it means to engage healthcare providers and why it matters so much in today’s world of employed physicians and accountable care models. Quantia’s been at the provider engagement game for several years, until recently mostly on behalf of the pharmaceutical industry, which has long understood the power of engagement.

Recently Quantia launched its Provider Alignment Platform for Health Systems, which Mike describes.

In my view the “engagement” discussed here is marketing pure and simple. This is a failed idea which has headed doctors in all sorts of unhelpful directions. The alignment needed is the ACO (like Kaiser Permanente), a very large vertically integrated system where the obvious driving force is delivering all the care a person needs for a given price per year. Instead of the marketing idea, the ideas should be teamwork and good management. This whole concept of “engagement” is like the tail wagging the dog.
